The safety of the children in our care is of paramount importance to us.
The staff undertake mandatory training in Child Protection.
The following actions will be taken where a child discloses abuse, neglect or raises concern that there may be a risk of abuse or neglect.
CASC staff must.
- If possible, ask to speak with the child in the office. This will provide privacy. If this doesn’t feel appropriate we will listen to the child where the conversation is taking place.
- Not promise the child we can keep things confidential.
- Reassure the child
- Ask open ended questions, Who, What, When, Where and How, avoiding the use of Why questions.
- Asap, the staff member will record what the child has said in the child’s own words using our Incident recording form.
- Inform the Playleader and Manager of the concerns asap
- The Playleader or Manager will discuss the concerns with partner agencies for example social work, the Headteacher, health and Police.
In the unlikely event that neither Playleader or Manager is available, it is the responsibility of all staff to call a partner agency for advice. In the first instance this would be the Children’s Wellbeing Dept on 01875 824309 or out of hours 0800 731 6969.
The Police can also be contacted on 101 (non emergency) or in an emergency, 999.
The Care Inspectorate will be notified of any Child Protection Incidents or concerns.
