Time seems to have flown by and we are already at the October break. We will return with the school on 21st October. Wishing all our children and families a restful and playful break.
Safeguarding and security guidance
The safety of children in our care is our priority. We hope the following information provides parents and carers with information on how we do this and how they can help us.
Pick Up time We ask that parents and carers always ring the buzzer on arrival unless a member of the team says that they have seen you and that they will collect your child. Parents and carers are asked to wait outside or in the entrance while we collect your child. The reason for this is that unfamiliar adults within the ASC could be unsettling for other children and could also interrupt the children’s play. If your child needs your help with leaving the ASC we will invite you in to help. Parents and carers must ensure their child has been signed out by a member of the team. Children must never leave the ASC until they are signed out. Parents and carers are responsible for the safety of their child once they have been signed out of the ASC.
Adults collecting children We will only allow children to leave with an adult that has been included on the child’s registration form. If an unfamiliar or unapproved adult asks to collect a child from CASC we will ask them to wait while we contact the parent/carer. If we are unable to contact you, we will not allow the child to leave. We ask parents and carers to call us on 0131 665 1748 to inform us if a different adult is collecting your child. Please do not be offended if anyone are asked to confirm their identity – we are all getting to know each other. Your patience is appreciated.
Mobile phones We have a mobile phone policy and ask that children leave any mobile phones or smart watches in their bags or the office. If they need to contact a parent/carer urgently, they will be assisted with this. Parent/carers can call the office on 0131 665 1748 at any time if they need to speak to their child.
Confidentiality We are unable to discuss any other children that attend CASC with parents/carers. This includes information about who is on the CASC register.
Playground safety We ask that parents/carers close the playground gates behind them. We are sorry but we ask that dogs are not brought into the playground at pick up time. If parents need to stay with their pet, they can call us on 0131 665 1748 and we will be happy to accompany their child to the gate. We are not able to allow children using CASC to play with other children in the playground. This can seem unfair sometimes but it is for safety and insurance reasons.
Breakfast Club We do not telephone if a child has not attended a planned breakfast club session. Parents and carers hold responsibility for their child’s welfare until they are signed in.
External clubs Parents and carers are responsible for letting us know if their child is attending any external or school based clubs on the days they are due to attend CASC. They also need to let us know the collection arrangements. We will follow our Unexplained Absence procedures if children are not accounted for at registration.

Harbour planter
ASC has adopted a planter at the Harbour. We are Number 29 which can be found to the left of the Harbour House as you follow the road to the sea. It also has a lovely sign that the children have made.
Thank you to those who have stopped by already and have left a shell, a stone or plants. It makes me smile when I visit.
The planter is for everyone, so please, if you are passing by feel free to give it a tidy up, to add a plant, a stone or shells. And if anyone knows how to deal with greenfly in an eco friendly way, please let me know as they have been having a feast on the Rose.
